Gyro Cable
A rotor only works with the right cables. Here you will find the connection between lever, rotor, and brake. We strictly distinguish between Upper Cables (lever to rotor) and Lower Cables (rotor to brake). Additionally, you have the choice between classic Y-cables or low-friction Dual Cables for maximum performance.

Gyro Cable FAQ
What is a Gyro Cable and what is its main purpose?
Gyro cables are specially designed brake cables necessary to operate a rotor unit. They allow for 360-degree rotation of the handlebars by splitting the pull at the rotor and merging it again. How are Gyro Cables constructed?
- Upper Cable
- Connects the brake lever to the upper rotor plate. The length varies and must match the handlebar height.
- Lower Cable
- Connects the lower rotor plate to the brake. Usually comes in a universal size that can be shortened.
- Knarps (End Nipples)
- The ends of the wire cables. Usually a simple barrel to hook in.
What types are there?
- Y-Cable (Split Cable)
- The standard. A single cable comes from the lever/to the brake and splits into two strands just before the rotor. Easy to install.
- Dual Cable
- Here, two completely separate cables run from the lever to the rotor (or from rotor to brake). This drastically reduces friction as there is no "splitter".
Which Gyro Cable is right for me?
The choice depends on your setup:- Length (Upper Cable): This is the most common buying mistake!
- Short/Small: For low bars (up to approx. 8.5").
- Medium: For standard bars (8.75" - 9.25").
- Long/Large: For high bars (9.5"+) or topload stems.
- System: Do you have a special break lever (e.g. Odyssey M2)? Then you need the corresponding upper gyro cables.
How do I install Gyro Cables?
- Hook the Upper Cable into the lever and connect the two ends to the upper rotor plate.
- Hook the Lower Cable into the lower rotor plate and route it to the brake.
- Adjust cable tension via the barrel adjusters so that the rotor plates remain parallel when pulled.
- Shorten the Lower Cable at the brake to the appropriate length (Caution: Use sharp cutters!).
How do I maintain and care for Gyro Cables?
- Lubrication: Regularly apply a drop of Teflon oil into the housing, especially where the Y-cable splits. Most friction occurs there.
- Inspection: Check the thin wire cables at the rotor for fraying. If a wire strand breaks, replace the cable immediately before it breaks.
How do I identify and fix common problems?
- Brake pulls unevenly: The two strands of the Y-cable are set to uneven lengths. Adjust the barrel adjusters on the rotor or frame until the rotor is pulled up horizontally.
