Brake Mounts
Do you own a modern frame with a "clean look" but still want the safety of a brake? Here you will find the necessary screw-on brake mounts and complete hardware kits to mount your brake securely. Check the table below to see which thread size your frame requires.

Brake Mounts FAQ
What are Brake Mounts and what is their main purpose?
Brake mounts are adapter pieces that screw into the seat stays of your frame. They serve as mounting pivots for your U-brake. Since many modern BMX frames are sold without welded-on mounts for a clean look ("Removable Brake Mounts"), you need these parts to install a brake or replace damaged mounts. How are Brake Mounts constructed?
- Threaded Bolt
- The part that screws firmly into the frame. The size (e.g., M6 or M8) must match the frame's mounting holes exactly.
- Brake Pivot (Pin)
- The smooth cylindrical part onto which the brake arms slide. Grease ensures smooth movement here.
- Cable Guides & Tabs
- Included in sets: Small eyelets that hold the brake cable to the frame, or "Gyro Tabs" on the head tube for rotor systems.
What types of Brake Mounts are available?
Here, a distinction is mainly made between simple replacement parts and complete conversion kits:
- Complete Sets: These are ideal if you are building up a new frame. The scope of delivery usually includes a complete set of attachments: screw-on U-brake sockets, cable guide eyelets (single and dual) for the top tube, gyro tabs for the head tube, and all necessary screws.
- Mount Pairs: If you have only lost or damaged the bolts for the brake arms, these pairs are sufficient.
What materials are used for Brake Mounts?
- Steel / CrMo
- The standard for brake mounts. Offers the necessary hardness so that the thread does not warp and the brake sits stiffly.
- Stainless Steel
- Often used for screws or high-quality mounts to prevent corrosion from sweat or moisture.
Which Brake Mounts are right for my needs?
The most important criterion is the thread size in your frame. There is no universal size, but there are standards you can use as a guide.
| Thread Type | Compatibility & Use |
|---|---|
| M6 Thread | The modern standard for many brands like wethepeople, Sunday Bikes, or Cult. Brake mounts with this thread are usually compatible across manufacturers. |
| M8 Thread | Often found on frames from Fit Bike Co., S&M Bikes, or Kink Bikes. The thread is thicker than M6. |
| M10 / Special | Very rare, mostly on older frames or specific brands (e.g., Flybikes formerly used special systems). |
How do I install Brake Mounts?
- Cleaning: Make sure the thread in the frame is clean and free of paint residue.
- Greasing: Apply some grease to the thread of the mounts (prevents seizing) and to the smooth pin (for brake mobility).
- Screwing in: Screw the mounts in hand-tight. Then use the appropriate tool (usually an open-end wrench or Allen key) to tighten them. Attention: Do not overtighten!
- Securing: Use medium-strength thread locker (Loctite blue) on the brake arm fixing bolts so they don't loosen due to vibration.
How do I maintain and care for Brake Mounts?
- Regularly check if the mounts are still tight in the frame. Loose mounts ruin the threads in the frame.
- If the brake squeaks or is stiff, remove the brake, clean the mount pin, and re-grease it.
- Check the cable guides for tightness so your brake cable doesn't rattle.
What do the specifications mean?
| Specification | Explanation & Available Options |
|---|---|
| Thread | Indicates the diameter of the thread screwed into the frame. Available: M6, M8. This must strictly match your frame. |
| Set Content | Indicates what you get. Available: Complete Hardware Kit (incl. Gyro Tabs & Cable Guides) or Brake Mount Pair (2 mounts only). |
| Compatibility | An M6 mount from Manufacturer A generally fits an M6 frame from Manufacturer B. |
